Rodwell & Wyke, Dorset Council
Claudia Webb was elected to Dorset Council in May 2024, to serve Rodwell & Wyke alongside Clare Sutton, successfully taking the seat of retiring Green councillor Brian Heatley.
Claudia says: “I am dedicated to and passionate about helping my local community, in which I have lived for fifteen years.
“I have been involved with the Friends of Rodwell Trail for over ten years and am a volunteer Police Cadet teacher in Weymouth.
“Previously I was a Weymouth Borough councillor for the Green Party. Despite being in a minority party I was able to work cross-party to pass a motion aimed at reducing littering and danger to wildlife in Weymouth.
“I have worked for the Weymouth Business Improvement District for three years and effected many positive changes in Weymouth.”

The letter asks the Port to abandon “these harmful proposals” for “an outdated form of technology”. They call for a “nationwide moratorium”, banning any new waste incinerators. They also ask for a meeting about the issue with Port officials. The letter continues: “It has become clear that there is no business case, no community case, and no environmental case for a waste incinerator on Portland.”

- Claudia Webb: “We need to develop a more compassionate vision” to beat the Adult Social Care funding crisisOn paper, Dorset Council has balanced its budget for 2024-25 through a 5% rise on Council Tax, fees and charges, and using up to £8m of its reserves if it can’t find further savings. But it has already spent £40m of reserves in its first five years. The Council Tax rise will hit many residents really hard but, with various councils across the country going bust, Dorset Council has little choice unless central government policy changes. Funding to local authorities has been slashed by half since 2010, with Dorset remaining almost bottom of the pile. Adult Social Care in particular, which already accounts for over 40% of Dorset Council’s expenditure, is chronically underfunded. Local Care Home Manager Claudia Webb writes: “This is an extremely pressing issue which successive governments have failed to address.”
