Helen Toft standing for the Greens in Weymouth

2 July 2022

Helen Toft, who's lived in Wyke for 28 years, is standing for the Greens in the Wyke by-election for Weymouth Town Council on Thursday July 7th.

Helen has been a hard worker in the community - she's campaigned for her local schools, raising funds, getting local school meal provision and solar panels installed.

Helen says she's standing as a Green candidate because she's concerned about the climate emergency and frustrated by the lack of action by the major parties. With two Greens already on the Town Council, Helen aims to join them and strengthen the Green voice on the Council, which has a Tory majority.

Like them she will be opposing plans for an incinerator on Portland.

There are also two Green councillors for Wyke on Dorset Council. One of them is Clare Sutton who said:  "Amongst many other things Helen set up a Walking Bus scheme which really helps working parents, and led a successful campaign to save school crossing patrols. I could not image a better person to represent Wyke on Weymouth Town Council".
