Val Graves in Town Council Byelection

8 March 2020

PLEASE DISREGARD THE POST BELOW. THE BY_ELECTION WAS CANCELLED AT SHORT NOTICE.

The Green Party's Val Graves is hoping to become a Weymouth town councillor for Wyke Regis. A byelection is being held on Thursday March 19th. Please vote for Val!

Val Graves

Val lives locally and has had a career in the NHS. She has been involved in the successful campaign to reopen access to Castle Cove Beach.

Chair of Friends of Castle Cove, Steve Elsworth, says "I've worked with Val for five years on the Castle Cove campaign. She is just fantastic. She is calm, capable, and really dynamic. She knows how to make things happen."

Weymouth elected it first Green Councillor just four years ago. There are now four on Dorset Council and last year both our candidates for Weymouth Town Coucil were elected. Residents vote for us because they trust us to be principled and hardworking.

Here are Val’s priorities for Wyke:
• Work with others to prevent the Portland Waste Incinerator, which will have a terrible impact on air quality, congestion and road safety in Wyke. Green Dorset and Weymouth Town Councillor Jon Orrell says, “As a local GP, I know just how damaging air pollution can be to young children with asthma and adults with breathing problems ”.
• Work with Wyke’s Dorset Councillors to improve road safety, particularly around Tesco’s and in residential ‘rat run’ roads
• Work closely with local residents and community groups to improve Wyke’s green spaces and ensure we can all make a difference.

Val says, “I love living in this wonderful place close to the sea, and have always tried to give something back to the local community. I’m now looking forward, if I am elected, to representing local people on the Town Council.”

Dorset Councillor, Clare Sutton, says, “having known Val since the start of the Castle Cove campaign, I’m delighted that she has agreed to stand for election. She has all the qualities needed to be an excellent councillor.”
