"I trained as a Ceramics conservator and used those skills and my passion for general repairs to set up the Repair Cafe in Dorchester with a couple of friends. I have run a B and B and been a stay at home mum.

"I am standing as a Green candidate to give local people the chance to vote Green and change the Tory dominance of the council.

GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE FOR BLANDFORD - PETE WEST

Pete West is a Green Party candidate for Blandford in the Dorset Council local elections on May 2nd

Pete says, "I have been a passionate campaigner on the need to tackle climate change for over 25 years.

"I was employed as a renewable energy project manager in not-for-profit energy advice centres in West Wales and Gloucestershire between 2000 – 2008.

My wife and I moved to Dorset in 2008 and I was employed by Dorset County Council as Renewable Energy Development Officer until I retired in 2016.

"I have always been motivated by ‘levelling up’ and taking practical steps to create a more equal and fairer society.

"Whilst employed by the County Council I assisted several town and parish councils to successfully negotiate over £1m of community benefit funds from commercial solar farm developments. I was a director of Dorset Community Energy from 2013- 2021, during which time over £1m was raised from local shareholders to install solar panels on 25 schools, hospitals and community buildings, with the sites benefitting from free or lower- cost solar electricity.

"Since 2021 I have been secretary of a scheme whose 50 members save an average of 20% of their electricity bills by purchasing locally generated renewable electricity. I believe it is important that people realise a green future is affordable and can lead to a better quality of life."
